About Me:
The main stream of my artistic work is NanoArt, a new art discipline at the intersections art-science-technology. I visualize with a scanning electron microscope different nanolandscapes (molecular and atomic landscapes which are natural structures of matter at molecular and atomic scales) and the nanosculptures (structures generated by manipulating matter at molecular and atomic scales using chemical and physical processes) I create, and capture their images in a computer. I paint and manipulate digitally these monochromatic scans, often combining the realism of the scientific imaging with abstract coloring, and print the final artworks on canvas or fine art paper with archival inks specially formulated to last for a long period of time. NanoArt is aimed to raise the public awareness of Nanotechnology and its impact on our lives.
Born in Bucharest, Romania, I live and work in Los Angeles since 1991. I was experimenting for over 35 years with different media and was involved in a variety of projects: acrylic and oil painting, digital art, photography, murals, mixed media, faux painting, trompe l’oeil, graphics, animation, web design, logo design, and a backdrop for a TV show.
For the last 25 years I was perfecting a new art form, NanoArt, which reflects the transition from Science to Art through Technology. I am a self-taught artist. My artworks were exhibited internationally and awarded in several competitions. Also, my work was commissioned by public organizations and private collectors.
In the last few years I became a very active promoter of NanoArt, founding and curating the NanoArt International Online Competition and the International Festival of NanoArt. Recently, I launched NanoArt K12, a worldwide competition for kids, to help the integration of Nanoscience and NanoArt in the scholar curriculum, for a better youth development and an understanding of the future technologies.
