Media Archeology and the Wearable Forest from Japan

This is less a discussion than a new member just sharing some things that may be of interest:

"Wearable Forest by Ryoko Ueoka and Hiroki Kobayashi was THE highlight of this year's Siggraph as far as wearables are concerned. This poetic piece of "bio-acoustic" clothing is networked with a subtropical forest of the southern Ryukyu Islands of Japan. The garment, outfitted with embedded speakers, LEDs, an embedded CPU system, and a wireless
connection, processes and remotely plays the soundscape of the jungle. The LEDs create patterns on the dress, reflecting the activity level of the life there at the moment. The brighter the light, the more active the creatures.
Sensors, found on the collar, also let the user transmit pre-recorded acoustic data back to the forest installation, creating a bioacoustical loop." -- fashioningtech.com

I LOVED this project. We interviewed the artists at SIGGRAPH and they are pretty amazing. Sorry the first part of the video is dark...but hang in there...!

Interesting interview, Alexa, as well as the the "Oasis" artists' interview. Thanks!

Do you happen to remember a 3D video (viewed using retro 3D glasses and with elevated-train content) that was screening nearby? I can't find any info on the artist(s)!
wow! i didn't get to see this but i am SO happy you posted this ... i'm going to check this out now ... fantastic stuff!
Hi lou,

Glad you like this. I wish there was more online about it, though maybe there is by now; it was pretty popular. Definitely inspiring.

BTW, I have to share that I >just< received a Fulbright grant for one year's research in Indonesia! Woohoo!
