Event Description

Ordinary scenes inspire Kyoto artist Yoshimura Toshiharu, translating them symbolically into the emotions he felt while viewing these landscapes and objects.

Due to his progression from a painter to ceramist, Yoshimura’s sculptures emphasize surface texture. His pieces often evoke aged and rusty metal, giving the feel of tranquility found in isolation. He says he now creates in order to maximize clay’s potential as a medium, to combine visual sensation with conceptual framework.

In conjunction with an exhibition of his ceramic sculpture at Keiko Gallery in Boston, Yoshimura will give a presentation about his work at the Ceramics Studio.
